Our Medical Office Administration program has long been one of our most popular programs,  and we’ve trained hundreds of students entering this exciting field!

So what exactly is medical administration? What is a ward clerk? Where will you work? What will your day look like once you land a job?

These are all very valid questions that can help you decide if this is the career for you, and we’re here to answer them!

The job

Medical Office Administrators (sometimes called Medical Secretaries or Medical Office Assistants) are the controllers in any medical office. Think of yourself as the air traffic controller of the office. You’re the one that keeps everything running smoothly and on-time!

Have you ever walked into a clinic to be greeted by a happy and bubbly person who checks you in for your appointment, makes sure all your information is correct, and gives you the low-down? Well that’s a Medical Office Administrator and may be you upon graduation!

And it’s a really big job! Responsible for managing the administrative duties of a medical practitioner’s office, the main goal of a medical office administrator is to ensure that all administrative duties of the medical office are handled properly and efficiently, that the office runs smoothly, and that all patient needs are met.

Typically you’ll work in a physician’s office when you graduate, but you  may also get a job in a hospital, urgent care clinic, assisted care facility, or other medical facility. Depending on where you work you may spend your days rocking comfy scrubs and shoes (hello runners!), or you may get to dress up and put on a blazer. It’s all about the role that you chose to take.

Depending on the job that floats your boat, you may get to work with a wide variety of medical professionals. These will include doctors, nurses, physicians, emergency response teams, and assistants. Additionally, Medical Office Administrators work directly with patients, their families, and insurance representatives. Remember, it’s your job to bring all the pieces together and ensure that things are working together to achieve success.

Your hours and schedule will also be  dependent on the type of job you take, giving you lots of flexibility. There are definitely positions that will allow you to work a normal 9-to-5, but shift work is also a possibility. You can apply for the positions that meet your lifestyle!

What’s a Ward Clerk?

Okay so that was a medical administrator, but with the CBBC Career College  program you’ll also receive training as a ward clerk!

A ward clerk is a person who provides general administrative, clerical, and support services for a clinical unit like a medical or surgical ward, an intensive care unit, or an emergency department. This training will allow you to supercharge your education and find even more opportunities in the fast-paced and ever-changing healthcare industry.

Think about it. you could be running an emergency room desk, controlling the chaos and ensuring that everyone is on track to save lives and make a real difference. Now those are  some COOL job prospects!

Employment prospects

It’s no secret that with COVID-19 unemployment is on the rise. There are a ton of industries that are suffering but healthcare is not one of them. In fact, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that investing in healthcare is as important as ever and that skilled workers (like medical office  administrators!) are key to keeping the system running smoothly.

If you’re looking to enter the exciting medical field and gain an education that will give you a LOT of opportunity, our Medical Office Administration with Ward Clerk program is one to look at! Offered at both our Dartmouth  and Sydney campuses, this program will open doors for you and make your employment prospects rise.

What Our Graduates Are Saying

I think the thing that has stood out to me the most in the program is how much the teachers care about your success and how they work hard to create a positive environment to learn in. It’s really amazing! They really encourage all the students to celebrate each other’s successes and help each other out. I really struggled with the decision of which school to attend, and I know that I made the right choice.
