Choose A Career That Gives Back

If you’re anything like us, the COVID-19 pandemic has left you feeling a bit isolated and disconnected from the rest of the world. We miss the friendly smiles at the grocery store, holding the door open for someone, and kind hugs for friends and family.

That being said, we are also aware that there are so many people who are going above and beyond to make a difference for others right now. Teachers are working overtime to keep themselves and their students safe while still providing a quality education. Healthcare workers are doing unimaginable things protecting the sick and most vulnerable.

If you’re looking for a career that helps you to reconnect with others and give back in these strange times keep reading. We have some wonderful career paths that will leave you feeling you’ve made a BIG impact at the end of the day.

Working with children

Working with children can be extremely challenging but also rewarding. Our 48-week Early Childhood Education Level 2 program is regulated, provincially approved, and will have you be career-ready in under one year (most Early Childhood Education programs across the province of Nova Scotia are delivered over two years). Early Childhood Educators (ECE) work with children who are six weeks to 12 years old. Whether you are working 1-on-1, or with a group of children, your primary role as an Early Childhood Educator is to fulfill your duty to help children with their emotional, cognitive, social, and physical needs. This may mean creating lesson plans, monitoring children as they play. access homework and assignments, and encouraging and engaging children. You’ll have a BIG Impact on their growth and development in this incredibly important and rewarding career!

If kids are your thing but you’re looking to work with children that are a bit older, consider becoming a teacher Assistant. Teacher assistants work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Assistants may also help students with research skills, or help teachers by grading tests, checking homework, and taking attendance. There are lots of varied day-to-day tasks for a teacher assistant and many opportunities for them within a school or grade level. For example, some teacher assistants work only with special education students. These students often attend regular classes and teacher assistants help them understand the material and adapt the information to their learning style.

Working in healthcare

Healthcare is also a wonderful way to give back to the community. If COVID-19 has taught us anything it’s that healthcare workers are true heroes, and that that investment in healthcare is KEY. CBBC Career College is thrilled to offer seven different healthcare programs that focus on a variety of different subjects.

If you’re looking to get started with your education soon, our Continuing Care Assistant Program begins shortly and is a great way to get started in the healthcare field. Continuing care assistants have been called “the eyes and ears of the frail and vulnerable” showing the incredibly important nature of this position. As a continuing care assistant, you’ll work directly with clients in long-term care, home care, assisted living, some areas in acute care, and even special needs classrooms. You’ll help them with mobility, personal care, assisting them to eat their meals, and medication monitoring. You need to be a caring, patient person, with an upbeat attitude and good people skills. Your most important asset is simply a desire to improve quality of life for others!

Another program that begins soon is our Pharmacy Assistant Program, another fantastic way to begin a career in the ever-growing healthcare field.  Pharmacy Assistant duties include working alongside Licensed Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to help process prescriptions. Think of yourself as kind of the behind-the-scenes superhero. You’ll be the one that keeps everything going in the background so that the pharmacy can function. Without a Pharmacy Assistant, most pharmacies would be unorganized chaos! If you’re looking for a repetitive desk job, this is NOT the career for you. You will be on your feet for the majority of the day (you’ll get those 10,000 steps in!) and have a variety of tasks to keep you busy and help your workday fly by. This is a dynamic position that requires skill, the ability to multitask, and an upbeat and outgoing personality.

It’s time to change your life. It’s time for an education from CBBC Career College.

Get a leg up in the job market NOW (don’t wait!). We would love to chat with you more about any of the programs above, or some of the other exciting programs that we offer. Contact us today. We look forward to chatting with you more about your new career opportunities!
