Are you looking for work? Maybe you’re employed but looking for a new challenge? Whatever is driving your need for a change, CBBC Career College is here to help. We have some GREAT programs starting at our campus in Dartmouth over the next month that will lead to challenging, fulfilling, lucrative careers. (That’s right, careers that you can build and be proud of – not just jobs!)
Here’s how you can change your life in the next 30 days:
Early Childhood Education
Our 48-week Early Childhood Education Level 2 program is regulated, provincially approved, and will have you be career-ready in under one year (just 48 weeks actually!). Most Early Childhood Education programs across the province of Nova Scotia are delivered over two years.
Early Childhood Educators (ECE) work with children who are six weeks to 12 years old. Whether you are working 1-on-1, or with a group of children, your primary role as an Early Childhood Educator is to fulfill your duty to help children with their emotional, cognitive, social, and physical needs. This may mean creating lesson plans, monitoring children as they play. access homework and assignments, and encouraging and engaging children. You’ll have a BIG Impact on their growth and development in this incredibly important and rewarding career!
Teacher Assistants work under a teacher’s supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Assistants may also help students with research skills, or help teachers by grading tests, checking homework, and taking attendance.
There are lots of varied day-to-day tasks for a teacher assistant and many opportunities for them within a school or grade level. For example, some teacher assistants work only with special education students. These students often attend regular classes and teacher assistants help them understand the material and adapt the information to their learning style.
It’s also possible to specialize within a subject or area of learning. For example as a teacher assistant you may work in the computer lab, teaching students how to use computers and helping them use software. Or you may work as recess or lunchroom attendants, supervising students during these times of the day.
Although most teacher assistants work in elementary, middle, and high schools, others work in preschools and other childcare centres. Often, one or two assistants work with a lead teacher to give the individual attention that young children need. They help with educational activities. They also supervise the children at play and help with feeding and other basic care.
Continuing Care Assistant
Demand for health-care workers is high, and that includes demand for continuing care assistants! If you enjoy caring for others our Continuing Care Assistant program might be just what you’re looking for. In fact, continuing care assistants have been called “the eyes and ears of the frail and vulnerable.” You need to be a caring, patient person, with an upbeat attitude and good people skills. Your most important asset is simply a desire to improve quality of life for others.
As a continuing care assistant, you’ll work directly with clients in long-term care, home care, assisted living, some areas in acute care, and even special needs classrooms. You’ll help them with mobility, personal care, assisting them to eat their meals, and medication monitoring. It’s a face-to-face, people-focused job.
The program combines hands-on classroom learning with practical clinical experience. You’ll graduate career-ready with hands-on practical skills and knowledge that will make you extremely employable in an in-demand industry.
The Business Administration program is great for someone who has been in business for a while and is looking to upgrade their skills or someone who is just starting out. It’s the kind of program that will open a TON of doors.
Someone who assists and oversees a business is a ‘Business Administrator’. This program is perfect for someone who wants a better understanding of how a business works and operates, and the different sectors within a business (like human resources, bookkeeping, accounting, marketing and administration). Potential future jobs include executive assistant, human resources and recruitment officer, administrative officer, bookkeeper, purchasing agents and officer, office and administrative support worker, accounting clerk, administrative clerk, and financial clerk.
No matter what career path you choose your critical thinking and logical reasoning skills will come in handy. You may spend your days working in human resources interviewing potential job applicants, processing payroll for your coworkers, or crunching numbers to determine liquidity and cash flow for the business. Whatever you choose there will be tons of room to learn and advance in your new environment with challenges around every corner. You’ll excel with a strong work ethic and of course your powerful education behind you.
If you’re looking for a new career path, our Pharmacy Assistant Program is a fantastic option in the ever-growing healthcare field. Not only is the demand high for Pharmacy Assistants (just search “Pharmacy Assistant” job opportunities and you’ll see!), but it’s a great, stable career that opens doors into the exciting world of healthcare.
If you’re looking for a repetitive desk job, this is NOT the career for you. You will be on your feet for the majority of the day (you’ll get those 10,000 steps in!) and have a variety of tasks to keep you busy and help your workday fly by. This is a dynamic position that requires skill, the ability to multitask, and an upbeat and outgoing personality. Pharmacy Assistant duties include working alongside Licensed Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to help process prescriptions. Think of yourself as kind of the behind-the-scenes superhero. You’ll be the one that keeps everything going in the background so that the pharmacy can function. Without a Pharmacy Assistant, most pharmacies would be unorganized chaos!
