Our Medical Office Administration program has long been one of our most popular. We have trained hundreds  entering this exciting field but there’s always room for improvement. This fall we relaunched this exciting program and added some additional training that will make our graduates even more job-ready!

It’s no secret that with COVID-19 unemployment is on the rise. There are a ton of industries that are suffering but healthcare is not one of them. In fact, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that investing in healthcare is as important as ever and that skilled workers (like medical office  administrators!) are key to keeping the system running smoothly. 

If you’re looking to enter the exciting medical field and gain an education that will give you a LOT of opportunity, our Medical Office Administration with Ward Clerk program is one to look at! Offered at both our Dartmouth  and Sydney campuses, this program will open doors for you and make your employment prospects rise.

The job

Medical Office Administrators (sometimes called medical secretaries or medical office assistants) are the controllers in any medical office. Responsible for managing the administrative duties of a medical practitioner’s office, the main objective of a medical office administrator is to ensure that all administrative duties of the medical office are handled properly and efficiently, that the office runs smoothly, and that all patient needs are met. 

Medical Office Administrators typically work in physician’s offices, but they may also work at hospitals, urgent care clinics, assisted care facilities, or other medical facilities. They work with a wide variety of medical professionals including doctors, nurses, physicians, emergency response teams, and assistants. Additionally, Medical Office Administrators work directly with patients, their families, and insurance representatives. These administrators generally work during regular business hours, but they may work nights and/or weekends depending on their employer.

The bones of the program have stayed the same, because the program was already great (we’ve just made it a bit greater!). You’ll receive training in:

• Medical Office Keyboarding
• Computers in the Medical Office
• Medical Anatomy and Terminology
• Medical Office Procedures
• Medical Office Communications
• Medical Office Pharmacology
• Medical Office Billing and Record Keeping
• Health and Safety Workshops
• Medical Office Transcription

You’ll also complete  a medical office practicum that will give you great experience and insight that will look fantastic on a resume!

What’s new is the addition of ward clerk training.  A Ward Clerk is a person who provides general administrative, clerical, and support services for a clinical unit like a medical or surgical ward, an intensive care unit, or an emergency department. This training will allow you to supercharge your education and find even more opportunities in the fast-paced and ever-changing healthcare industry.
