CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 UPDATES

Featured image for CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 UPDATES

Updates as of July 27, 2020

All CBBC Career College programs have been approved by N.S. Labour and Advanced Education to be delivered using Alternate Program Delivery Methods.  This means that all training will be provided online using the same format as if the training was delivered in the classroom: instructors will deliver daily lectures, discussion points, assignments, etc. Students will be required to be online every day, as per the classroom schedule.
Whenever possible, CBBC Career College will allow students to attend face-to-face training. In such cases, the numbers will be limited to allow for social distancing measures. While in general attending face-to-face classroom training or online training sessions will be at the discretion of each student, attending in person the hands-on training for labs, certificates and workshops are mandatory. Note: due to the fluidity of the pandemic this could change based on directives from the Minister of Health and Wellness.
The approval for Alternate Program Delivery Methods is temporary and all students will be required to attend face-to-face training, should COVID public health measures be lifted.

Updates as of March 25, 2020

Please read the following important update:

During this unprecedented period of time CBBC has made every effort possible to both continue the delivery of our exceptional post-secondary vocational programs, and to keep our students and staff safe and secure. Throughout these very fluid times, the College has followed federal and provincial directives and has worked closely with regulators to ensure the effects of this pandemic would have as little impact as possible on our valued students and staff. With patience, hard work, and that unique maritime team-spirit, we have thus far been successful in this endeavour.

The State of Emergency declared in Nova Scotia has had a substantial impact on the policy decisions of the governmental bodies in the province, and CBBC Career College is obligated to follow suit. The College must, in turn, make decisions in the best interest of its students and staff.

Therefore it is with great regret that CBBC must take the position to pause all educational operations for a period of 6 weeks. This means all CBBC campuses will be temporarily closed and all educational training, including online learning, will be put on hold beginning Monday, March 30, 2020, until Monday, May 11, 2020. Classes will continue to be delivered online until the end of the week, so please continue to attend the Moodle/Zoom lectures until Friday, March 27, 2020.

We ask everyone for their continued patience and support. Your educational programs are not in jeopardy but are simply on hold during this period. This will mean that the end dates of all affected programs will need to be adjusted, but no students will be withdrawn and your programs are safe. Students and staff will have a break period of 6 weeks, and this time can be used to take care of your family and homes.

CBBC will continue to provide updates as we receive them throughout this break period. The College will always make decisions in the best interest of its students and staff. We are one big family and we are in this together.

Thank you,

Henry Devlin
President & CEO
CBBC Career College

Updates as of March 16, 2020

CBBC is committed to keeping our students safe while delivering the highest quality educational experience. As a result of recent health events, and the uncertainty that this outbreak is causing, CBBC will be implementing an educational distribution plan that is designed to safeguard the continuity of program delivery. Our plan is to ensure that program standards are maintained at the highest levels and that risks to students and staff are mitigated. CBBC wants to make sure that you remain safe while your program continues.

Please review the following update:

  • Because of the fluid nature of this unprecedented time, CBBC is creating an online, virtual classroom experience beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, that will allow most students to remain home to take their classes. You will be able to attend classes through the use of the apps Moodle and Zoom. We will provide more information in the coming days, but stay tuned for this exciting model of program delivery.
  • You will still have access to your instructors! Yes, your program instructors will be accessible live through the apps during regular class time. All CBBC instructors will be providing you with their work email addresses, so if you have an after-hours question, feel free to send your instructor an email.
  • Each student will be required to have access to technology that will allow for the download of the Moodle and Zoom apps, such as a laptop computer, desktop computer, tablet, etc. Internet access will be required as well. If you do not have access to a computer, CBBC has a limited number of laptops and will, based on availability, make these available for you to sign out and take home. CBBC will also make campus classroom space available for those who still wish to come to school to attend their online virtual lessons. Please contact your campus to let us know if you DO NOT have access to technology.
  • Students who are currently on practicum or who are scheduled to go to practicum within the next several weeks must still attend practicum as per the schedule of the practicum site. In some cases, the practicum site may close or limit their business hours. If this happens, then please inform your instructor and alternate arrangements will be made for you. If CBBC becomes aware of a practicum cancellation we will inform you directly. In case of cancellation, practicums will be rescheduled as soon as feasible.
  • Cosmetology and Aesthetics students: Because of the hands-on nature of your practicum experience, your placements are postponed until further notice. We appreciate your understanding and patience in this very difficult time and rest assured CBBC will make alternate arrangements as soon as possible so that you can continue in your program with as little interruption as possible.
  • CBBC campuses will remain open at an administrative level, so administration staff will be on-hand to help answer some of your questions. If you have textbooks or other learning materials that need to be picked up, please call your campus and time will be arranged for someone will go with you to your classroom or locker.

So please stay tuned as we plan to update you with additional information very soon! CBBC thanks you for your patience and understanding during this time of rapid change. The situation is very fluid and we are making every effort to work with you and for you.

Updates as of March 13, 2020

The safety, health and well-being of our staff and students remain our top priority. Our organization continues to closely monitor the local, national and international occurrence of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and will provide updates as the situation evolves.

While some provincial governments have ordered that all publicly funded schools (K-12) be shut down until April 5th, there is no specific direction at this time for post-secondary institutions. Our organization is working closely with all the provincial regulatory bodies and as soon as we receive additional information from the Ministry, we will share with our staff and students. Please continue to monitor your email over the weekend for additional information regarding your return to school after the weekend/spring break.

IMPORTANT!

Students currently attending the practicum/coop portion of the program: please monitor and adhere to your practicum/co-op/clinical placement workplace policy regarding COVID-19 and inform the college via email if you are directed to participate in social distancing.
