Greg Cole is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He is down to earth, kind, and just really fun. He is an engaging and caring person whose passion for helping our students find success after graduation is contagious. He has more than 20 years of experience as a human resources and operations professional and he channels that knowledge and experience into his job.

His role here at CBBC Career College is with the Career Services department. It is his job to get our graduates hired! He spends his days getting to know them, and getting to know employers to find matches for practicums as well as long term employment. Basically, if you’re looking for new staff in the HRM he should be the first person you email (why hunt when he has an inbox full of excellent candidates?).

We spent a few minutes with Greg to ask him about his role at CBBC Career College and all of the ways that he uses his expertise to get our graduates into the jobs of their dreams.

Q: Hey Greg! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us! Let’s start with the basics, what does the Career Services department do?

Greg Cole: Career Services assists all of our students in finding field placements and helps them further secure careers in their field of study. We work one-on-one with our students to develop resumes, cover letters, job search strategies, and interview skills to find and secure that dream job that brought them to us in the first place. That assistance doesn’t end when the student graduates, we also offer those services to all of our alumni whenever they may need it!

Q: That sounds like a big job. How many students per year do you place in practicums?

GC: Well that’s hard to say because some students and programs have multiple placements while others just have one. I would say that we coordinate approximately 500 field placements per year.

Q: Do these placements usually end in permanent jobs for our students?

GC: Absolutely! Placements aren’t about finding a job per se, it’s more about gaining critical experience in the field, building their resume and network and having a solid reference to aid in their job search, but it does happen often. Probably 50% to 75% of the time! Our students are fantastic and I know that employers try and hold on to them if it’s a good fit.

Q: That is really impressive. So our Career Services department can really bring value to employers who are looking to add to their teams!

GC: Absolutely, through practicum placements and permanent jobs. CBBC Career College programs offer practical, hands-on, instructor-led training with comprehensive, up-to-date curriculum. Many programs provide industry certification – an indicator of high standards of graduates. Graduates have completed a practicum placement prior to graduation which provides valuable experience and learning in the field. Many of our graduates are adult learners and have many years of practical and transferable skills. They’re ready to work and have the skills to be excellent employees.

Q: What sort of skills do you think CBBC Career College graduates bring to their jobs after graduation?

GC: Graduates enter their new careers with all the relevant industry experience employers are looking for which comes from a solid, industry-led approach to program design.
