The effects of the pandemic are still being felt by so many. As the tourism, restaurant, and retail industries struggle to rebound some are still left without employment. Others still are looking to make a change and build a career instead of just a job.

If you’re one of those people and are wondering which schooling will give you the best chance of finding employment, CBBC Career College is here to help. We found this fantastic guide outlining which jobs are the most in-demand in Nova Scotia and happily, we can provide education to get your foot in the door in a variety of positions on this list.

Here are three options that we think are a solid fit:

Business, finance, and administration

According to the guide, business, finance, and administration occupations were the second-largest occupational category in Nova Scotia in 2019, with 67,500 workers.

Many jobs in this category can be done remotely, which has allowed workers to continue in their roles while following public health directions. Additionally, businesses that are rebounding from the pandemic are requiring additional human resources, marketing, and accounting support.

Our Business Administration program is perfect for entering this growing industry. It’s great for someone who has been in business for a while and is looking to upgrade their skills or someone who is just starting out. It’s the kind of program that will open a TON of doors. Why? Because it covers the four major knowledge areas that anyone going into business or starting a business needs to know about: marketing, administration, human resources, and accounting.

Early childhood education

Early childhood educators (ECEs), those who work with children in daycares or other care settings, are always in demand. We have a fantastic Early Childhood Education program that will get you job-ready in under a year!

During the pandemic, daycares were closed and many ECEs were laid off, but centres are open again and business is booming. Currently, there is a larger than usual need for ECE substitutes, as regular staff must stay home if experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

The multi-year rollout of the provincial government’s ‘pre-primary program’ also wrapped up in the fall of 2020. This program provided universal, free education to pre-primary school-aged children. It employs 850 ECEs, increasing overall demand. The program’s creation resulted in openings in the private sector as well, as some daycare employees moved to the public pre-primary program.

To put it bluntly: there are jobs available. Lots of jobs.

Dental assistants

Dental assistants are needed, badly! Many job opportunities are currently occurring through turnover. With a moderate percent of workers being 55 years of age and older, retirements are expected to contribute somewhat to employment opportunities over the coming years. The number employed in this occupation is expected to grow moderately over the next few years, which will likely provide some additional opportunities for employment.

We have two options for becoming a dental assistant. The traditional route where learning happens in a classroom and dental lab, and our new distance learning program which allows you to learn online and gain experience in a dental office.

What Our Graduates Are Saying

[The students] have been absolutely amazing, and taking initiative with the care and their education (they have jumped in with confidence). They all have been extremely professional, and have built fantastic rapport with the residents and the staff, and if I had a spot for them I would hire them in a heartbeat.
