Start a Career in Early Childhood Education in Under a Year!

Explore the comprehensive Early Childhood Education Diploma program available at our Dartmouth and Sydney campuses, providing a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical training to equip you as a skilled Early Childhood Educator. Our program, regulated and provincially approved, fast-tracks your journey to a Level 2 classification in less than a year, a significant advantage compared to the typical two-year duration of Early Childhood Education programs in Nova Scotia.

Enter into holistic, play-based learning methodologies, fostering stimulating environments through natural discovery and invention. Develop an appreciation for the social and cultural contexts of children, emphasizing the continuity of learning experiences and authentic assessment. Apply your newfound skills in real-world settings during practicums, gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

As an Early Childhood Educator, your primary responsibility spans the emotional, cognitive, social, and physical development of children aged six weeks to 12 years. Whether working individually or with a group, you play a pivotal role in shaping their growth and well-being.

Bursaries are available through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development for up to $5,000* paid in installments over the duration of your early childhood education diploma program. Priority consideration is given to students from underrepresented groups within the sector, including those with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+, newcomers, Acadian/francophone, Mi’kmaq/Indigenous, Black/African Nova Scotian, or other racially visible groups. For specific details, reach out to your post-secondary institution.

As an Early Childhood Educator, you will:

  • Utilize observation skills to plan engaging learning activities
  • Foster children’s development through play and interaction
  • Cultivate relationships with children, families, and caregivers
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external agencies in a team-oriented approach
  • Establish safe and stimulating learning environments
  • Provide inclusive and meaningful care for all children
  • Create pedagogical documentation of children’s development
  • Implement authentic assessment for evaluating children’s progress
  • Develop programming based on children’s interests and development

Benefit from courses taught by industry-leading professionals, and engage in practicums with our esteemed industry partners across the HRM and greater Sydney area, Nova Scotia. Upon graduation, attain Level 2 Early Childhood Educator status, with the potential for Level 3 classification based on prior qualifications. Your journey to becoming an impactful Early Childhood Educator starts here.

What Our Graduates Are Saying

I think the thing that has stood out to me the most in the program is how much the teachers care about your success and how they work hard to create a positive environment to learn in. It’s really amazing! They really encourage all the students to celebrate each other’s successes and help each other out. I really struggled with the decision of which school to attend, and I know that I made the right choice.
